1. Frantastic: We can all agree that the news this week has been a bit disheartening. But here at “The 8,” we always have your best interests at heart. That’s why we want to share the greatest thing that we discovered on the internet this week: a live stream of tiny kittens hanging out in a tiny apartment. It’s like "Real World" meets "Big Brother," but instead of fighting, there’s cuddling. If this doesn’t make you smile, we don’t know what will.

2. Franlebrity: This week’s Franlebrity is Jim Carpenter, the founder and CEO of Wild Birds Unlimited*. As a first-time business owner, he admits that getting the brand up and running was overwhelming at first. So, he turned to a mentor to guide him along the way. That’s why he believes that mentors are essential for all entrepreneurs looking to thrive in today’s business environment. Check out his 1851 Franchise cover story to learn more about how he overcame numerous obstacles to make Wild Birds Unlimited into the growing concept that it is today.

3. Frash Money: QSR sales are on the rebound—kind of. After 10 months of negative sales growth, same-store sales in the restaurant industry were flat in January. And while the industry may not be rebounding at the pace that some restaurant operators and franchisors would like, any little bit of progress counts when you’re already struggling.

4. Frant of the Week: At first look, this week’s Frant just looks like a video of a shirtless man dancing alone in a crowd. And while that’s definitely a part of it, there’s a much bigger point to be made. No Limit Agency* CEO Nick Powills highlights the power of brand culture in his latest column. If entrepreneurs see a crowd of dedicated and passionate franchisees flocking towards a successful brand, chances are they’ll want to be a part of it too.

5. Franch Forward: Lennys Grill & Subs is Franching Forward in Tampa. With two successful locations already operating in the area, the brand has proven that the market is a great fit for its model. That’s why Lennys Grill & Subs is now looking for more franchisees in the area to continue building on its strong momentum and local brand awareness.

6. Fran Funny: What do you do if someone thinks an onion is the only food that can make them cry? Throw a coconut at their face.

7. Franspiration Misquote: Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm, unless you’re buying into a proven franchise system. Then you’re already winning. – Winston Churchill

8. Franemies vs. Frands: In keeping with our positive vibes this week (check out that kitten live stream again), we’re highlighting a franchising Frand. SMB Franchise Advisors* is a top tier resource for people looking to turn their independent businesses into franchise opportunities. From franchise sales and development to operations and financial services, the SMB team helps business owners successfully get their unique concepts off the ground.
