Shelbyville Daily Union: Philly Pretzel Factory Eyes Shelbyville for Development

East-coast pretzel franchise looks at Shelbyville Wal-Mart for development as part of larger expansion plan in Illinois

Philly Pretzel Factory is hoping to open a location in Shelbyville by summer as part of a larger development plan in Illinois. The location would employ 8-12 people and the brand is eyeing the Shelbyville Wal-Mart for potential real estate.

With the franchise model, the brand is able to become a part of the communities where there is a presence.

"We want people who want to be the pretzel mayor of their town," Philly Pretzel Factory Chief Development Officer Tom Monaghan told the Shelbyville Daily Union reporter. "It's about being a part of the community."

The pretzel product typically does well in Wal-Mart locations because of the flow of people in and out of the supermarket.

"There's a concentration of people there where we can take advantage of a captive audience." Monaghan told the reporter.
