TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is already a leading name in the moving industry. Now the 390-unit franchise is staking an outsized claim for its franchise owners in the junk-removal industry. In addition to its 3,000 moving trucks, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® aims to put 100 junk-removal trucks on the road by the end of 2022.

“Increasingly, junk removal is proving to be a no-brainer add-on for our franchise owners,” said Randy Shacka, president of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. “So many moving jobs require junk-removal services as well. By providing that service, we have made TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® a one-stop-shop for our customers and created a new revenue stream for owners.”

Currently, 67 TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise owners are offering junk-removal services, with another 18 preparing to launch the service this year. Justin Clarey, a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® owner in Columbus, Ohio, has been offering junk removal since late 2019.

“We rolled out junk removal just before the pandemic — not an ideal time to try and launch a new service, but it took off anyway,” he said. “Not only did it provide a new revenue stream for us, it perfectly complements our moving operations, extending our busy season and opening up a new pool of potential customers without conflicting with our existing business or requiring drastic changes to our operations.”

In 2022, the labor shortage has emphasized yet another benefit of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s junk-removal services: employee development opportunities.

“Any new service is going to create new opportunities for your employees, and that is important for retention,” Clarey said. “Junk removal has allowed us to create new roles and pathways within our company, which has made it much easier for us to keep and develop our best employees.”

Shacka says the franchise has doubled the number of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations offering junk-removal services this year, and franchise owners are increasingly eager to bring the offering to their territories.

“Everyone always wants to wait and see how something works out for someone else before taking it on themselves,” he said. “After a few years of franchise owners finding success with junk removal, the floodgates have opened and our owners are excited for it.”

Shacka says revenue from junk removal has doubled year-over-year since its launch in 2019, and a whopping 97% of junk-removal customers are referring the brand to other customers.

“It’s been an incredible shot in the arm for our system,” Shacka said. “We have franchise owners who have been with us for 25 years who are taking on junk removal and finding new opportunities to grow. Ultimately, that’s what it’s all about for the corporate team: finding new ways to bring more opportunities to our franchise owners. Junk removal is a shining example of that mission in action.”
