You Can Super Size It Again, Kind Of.
The Big Mac is getting an update. McDonald’s has started testing two additional sizes to the iconic menu item—the Grand Mac and the Mac Jr. The Grand Mac is served on a larger bun and features two 2.7-ounce patties while the Mac Jr. is a Big Mac with only one patty and the middle bun removed. Both burgers are served with lettuce, American cheese, pickles, onions and special sauced served on a sesame seed bun. The new sizes are available in limited markets in some Texas and Ohio restaurants. In addition to the new Big Mac sizes, McDonald’s is also testing all-you-can-eat fries at their St. Joseph, Missouri location.


Papa John’s Removing High Fructose Corn Syrup from Menu
In a move to continue improving its pizza, Papa John’s has announced that it has removed all high fructose corn syrup from its menu items. This comes as the company has been removing other additives from the menu including partially hydrogenated oils, MSG, meat fillers, artificial flavors and synthetic colors. So far, Papa John’s has invested more than $100 million to improve the quality of its pizza.


Moe’s Passes Chipotle as Best Fast Casual Mexican Brand
The Harris Poll annual Brand of the Year awards has named Moe’s Southwest Grill as Brand of the Year, Fast Casual Mexican Restaurant. This recognition has unseated Chipotle, the reigning winner since 2013. Moe’s has also achieved a 13 percent brand equity increase over a three-year period, making it one of the largest brand equity increased.


Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain Deli Acquired by Growler USA
Growler USA, an eight-unit, craft-beer-focused casual-dining chain, has acquired Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain Deli, a 17-unit chain. Growler USA founder Dan White will serve as CEO for both companies while former Smiling Moose president and CEO Sue Daggett will serve as executive vice president of the new company. The brands have plans on expanding separately through franchising.


Mini Chillattas Now Available at Cinnabon
Fans of Cinnabon’s Chillattas can now enjoy the blended beverage in a 10-ounce size. The new snack size version gives customers the opportunity to satisfy that “just a sip” craving. Fans of this smaller size can also enjoy other beverages in the smaller size including Cinnamon Roll Iced Coffee, and the Mochalatta Chill. In addition to the new size, Cinnabon customers can enjoy the new Oreo Strawberry flavor through July 31.
