Wing Zone has thrown its hat into the Chicago wing ring with aggressive expansion plans launched to have 35 locations in the area by 2020.

Wingstop, a competitor launched expansion plans in the market back in 2012, but with Wing Zone's recent seventh area opening in Skokie they are looking to take on the giant. The Atlanta-based brand will open two more suburban locations this year, with more expansion plans in the works.

"For us right now, the core focus is getting good real estate," said Wing Zone co-founder and CEO Matt Friedman. "Years ago, we targeted subpar real estate and tried to market our way out of it. Today, we're very particular where we're putting our stores. If it's not a prime spot, for us it's not worth it."

What differentiates Wing Zone from competitors is its focus ion delivery. The chain employs its own drivers has a dedicated online portal and mobile app for delivery ordering.
