VentureBeat: Mira unveils lightweight augmented reality glasses for $100

The tech company's Prism glasses offer an affordable augmented reality experience for consumers to explore.

Virtual reality glasses just became more financially accessible. An article in VentureBeat notes that the tech company Mira announced a set of augmented reality glasses retailing for $100. The Prism glasses will be shipped out to consumers in the fall.

The Prism glasses are mostly made out of plastic, which allows for both a lightweight and affordable design. The low cost may help this small company compete with larger corporations offering augmented reality devices with steeper price tags.

“We wanted to experiment, but the only way to do that was with kits that cost thousands of dollars. We couldn’t do that, and so Mira was born out of necessity,” said Ben Taft, CEO of Mira.

According to the article in VentureBeat, Microsoft's HoloLens prototype retails for around $3,000. This financial divide will give Mira the upper hand with consumers looking to pay less for an augmented reality experience.
