Fast Casual: Chipotle Stock Plummets on News of Virginia Norovirus Outbreak

A Chipotle restaurant in Virginia reports customers developing systems of norovirus.

Just when Chipotle thought it was coming back from its food-poisoning scandal, the brand is dealing with another outbreak. According to a recent Fast Casual article, the company has confirmed that multiple customers are experiencing symptoms of norovirus at a Sterling, Virginia store and this news has already affected the company’s share price on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock decreased by close to 7 percent on Tuesday.

“We are working with health authorities to understand what the cause may be and to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The reported symptoms are consistent with norovirus,” said Chipotle Executive Director of Food Safety, Jim Marsden.

He also went on to mention that norovirus does not come from a company’s food supply. Though the virus can be spread through food if a restaurant employee does not conduct proper sanitation procedures and then handles food for customers.
