As 1851’s first apprentice, completing a year of consultancy and support for the Chicago-based content marketing agency and publisher, Scott Oaks is preparing to venture back into franchising.

“The last year has provided me with a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of franchise marketing from the agency standpoint,” he said. “I look forward to applying my learnings to the next franchise brand I work with, as well as returning to my passion of helping a great brand grow with great franchisees.”

Prior to joining 1851, Oaks held a Vice President of Franchise Development position at senior care franchise Brightstar. Additionally, he held sales positions at both Quiznos and Wireless Zone under the leadership of 1851’s Chief Development Strategist Sean Fitzgerald.

“Scott’s time at 1851 has been beneficial for both our group and our clients,” Fitzgerald said. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with Scott wherever he goes next.”

1851 is now on the hunt for its next apprentice as it continues to incubate current and future franchise development pros.

“There is no true schooling for franchise sales and marketing, other than the school of hard knocks – the franchise industry,” said Nick Powills, CEO of 1851. “We are continuously working on enhancing our development coaching program to further train current franchise executives and find the next great sales leaders.”

Powills noted that 1851 plans to hire two more trainees in the next six months. New team members will work on both client consulting and franchise sales support for current 1851 clients.
