QSR Magazine: Domino’s CEO Leaving, but Not for Chipotle

J. Patrick Doyle sets the rumors straight on his next role after Domino’s.

The announcement to depart Domino’s in June created a wheel of rumors for CEO J. Patrick Doyle. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, Doyle was quick to dismiss the rumors in the company’s investor meeting that he would be joining the Chipotle team after his departure. What is true is that he plans to take off six months to decide what his next move with Domino’s will be.

The brand has seen some incredible growth since Doyle took over in 2010 and completely revamped its image. With 8.4 percent same-store sales growth in the third quarter, it marked the 26th consecutive quarter of positive sales momentum. And the commitment to digital innovation has paid off for the brand since 60 percent of orders placed in the U.S. in 2016 were from digital channels.

Due to Chipotle’s need for a turnaround, many speculated that Doyle would make the move to lead the brand. Steve Ells announced he was stepping down as CEO in November to become executive chairman. The next leaders of both brands are still to be determined.
