McDonald’s is planning to fight climate change with its newest announcement. According to a recent CNBC article, the fast-food giant hopes to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its restaurants and offices by 36 percent between 2015 and 2030 and it plans to partner with suppliers and its franchisees to achieve its new goal. In addition, the brand says it will cut emissions intensity per metric ton of food and packaging across its supply chain by 31 percent by 2030.

"To create a better future for our planet, we must all get involved," said Steve Easterbrook, president and CEO. "McDonald's is doing its part by setting this ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address the challenge of global climate change," he added. "To meet this goal, we will source our food responsibly, promote renewable energy and use it efficiently, and reduce waste and increase recycling."

More brands are taking a stand on climate change as consumers become more conscious of the issues and want to do business with brands that are doing their part to help. McDonald’s biggest contributors to its carbon footprint include beef production, restaurant energy usage and sourcing packaging and waste.
