TechCrunch: Instagram quietly launched payments for commerce

In-app payments allow for seamless scrolling on the content platform.

Today, TechCrunch reported that, in an effort to make the buying experience on Instagram more seamless, the social sharing app will now allow users to save payment information directly in the app. Although Instagram already allowed users to shop online retailers' sites right from a pop-out page, this new update means consumers can skip the check-out process and make purchases directly from the app.

The first brand equipped with this upgrade is dinner reservation app Resy. Resy's clients' Instagram pages will now offer this new payment option for booking. Instagram says users can expect to make direct payments on the apps for things like movie tickets and clothing in the future.

This update comes as the Facebook-owned platform continues to build out its ad model and support businesses.
