CBS News: Donald Trump Speaks to Divided Country on “60 Minutes”

“60 Minutes’” Lesley Stahl spoke with President-elect Donald Trump over the weekend to learn more about what we can expect from his presidency. The answer? Not all of his campaign issues were meant to be taken literally, such as his stance on Obamacare and immigration. Rather, they were intended as opening bids for negotiation.

TIME: What Donald Trump’s Staff Choices Tell Us So Far

On Sunday, Trump tapped RNC Chairman Reince Priebus as his chief of staff, and Stephen Bannon, the former CEO of Breitbart, as his chief strategist and senior counselor.

“Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again,” Trump said in a press release.

The campaign statement also referred to the two men as “equal partners.”

“Bannon and Priebus will continue the effective leadership team they formed during the campaign, working as equal partners to transform the federal government, making it much more efficient, effective and productive,” it said.

According to TIME, Bannon represents more bare-knuckle style politics—the kind that’s often seen as appealing to Trump’s inflammatory nature. Meanwhile, Priebus is believed to be a more reassuring presence to the Republicans still uncertain about what a Trump White House will look like. The pick signals that Trump may be looking to build bridges in Washington, rather than causing disruption from day one.

The New York Times: Donald Trump Softens Stance on Key Issues

When it comes to Trump’s position on immigration, he recently announced that the wall he’s been promising to build on the nation’s southern border might actually end up being a fence. He also changed his stance on his priority to deport an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country. Instead, he’s now saying that he’ll deport two to three million immigrants he characterized as dangerous or as having criminal records.

However, Trump’s position on abortion remains unchanged. While appearing on the CBS program “60 Minutes,” he repeated his promise to name a Supreme Court justice who opposed abortion rights and would help overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that recognized them, returning the issue to the states.

CNN: Trumps Protests Enter Into Fifth Consecutive Day

This Sunday, protestors once again hit the streets, marking the fifth day in a row of demonstrations in cities like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In general, protestors are upset about Trump’s policies on health care, the environment, LGBT rights and other issues. Others are questioning the legitimacy of Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton by noting that although he took the Electoral College, Clinton won the popular vote.

This past weekend, Los Angeles saw protests rise to 8,000 people. In New York, thousands marched two miles on Saturday and gathered outside Trump Tower.

“I think it’s horrible if that’s happening. I think it’s built up by the press because, frankly, they’ll take every single little incident that they can find in this country, which could’ve been there before,” Trump said of the protests this weekend.
