As part of its continued effort to positively impact the communities in which it operates, Home Clean Heroes* is further living up to its name. This holiday season, the residential cleaning service franchise brand launched a new initiative called Heroes Fighting Hunger, a food drive benefiting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

“At Home Clean Heroes, we genuinely believe in giving back to the community,” said Kathy Turley, director of marketing for the brand. “Partnering with an organization like the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia that is dedicated to fighting hunger in our own backyard is of great importance and value to us, especially during the holiday season.”

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore was established in 1981 with a mission to lead the effort to eliminate hunger in its immediate community. The food bank’s service territory spans 4,745 square miles and includes the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin and Virginia Beach as well as the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Accomack.

Over its history, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has distributed over 331 million pounds of food, adding up to more than 276 million meals. In the 2016-17 fiscal year alone, the organization provided 18 million pounds of food to those in need, equating to 15 million meals.

The Foodbank’s overwhelming community impact and continued need for support led Virginia Beach-based Home Clean Heroes to team up with the organization this year. To reach its goal of donating 250 food items in the inaugural year of the Heroes Fighting Hunger food drive, Home Clean Heroes enlisted the help of its clients. The brand’s grime fighters began picking up contributions earlier this month, allowing clients to help fight hunger by conveniently leaving donation items on their kitchen counters. By December 20, the brand had already exceeded its initial goal.

Home Clean Heroes will continue collecting a variety of items for the Foodbank through December 31, including canned goods, non-perishable items and grocery store gift cards. Some of the Foodbank’s most-needed items are lean canned protein including peanut butter, tuna, chicken, turkey, and beans as well as canned fruits and vegetables, pasta sauce, 100% fruit juice, fruit preserves and dried fruit.

Additionally, the Foodbank is seeking whole grain dry goods like cereal, pasta, oatmeal, rice and crackers, pre-packaged meals like soups and stews and baby products including formula, baby food, diapers and wipes. All items will be taken to the Foodbank the first week of January to help them restock their shelves after the holidays.

“We are honored and excited to be contributing to such a meaningful, community-rooted cause this holiday season,” said Turley. “The care and enthusiasm that our team and clients have shown already gives me confidence that will be able to meet and exceed our goals year after year with the Heroes Fighting Hunger initiative. As Home Clean Heroes continues to grow, we plan to bring the initiative to all of our markets as an annual tradition.”
