WHY I BOUGHT
Why These Multi-Brand Business Owners Saw Great Opportunity with Lawn Doctor
Matt and Suzy Mazzone are true entrepreneurs at heart. They owned a family-run hospitality company for a while and then started an Amazon delivery and DSP business, which they have now grown to about 80 employees. The package business has some seasonality, and the Mazzone's were looking into what other endeavors they could start where they could use their talented team of workers.
Lawn Doctor, the 630-plus unit lawn maintenance franchise that operates all over the nation, appeared in their search. Suzy noticed a gap in the market for customer service-focused lawn care businesses. They had found a trustworthy local company that did great work, but noticed there was a big opportunity in the market .
“Suzy was the main driver in giving us the idea of the industry. She had taken more of the home needs of our lawn and grew frustrated with different options and ways to go about it. We saw a great opportunity,” Matt said.
They have been able to hire qualified personnel for their Lawn Doctor of Clifton Park-Ballston Spa-Schenectady-Amsterdam franchise, all from their Amazon business M Zone Logistics, so they have already vetted that they are great people.
“We've been doing Amazon for two years in the fall; we've grown a team of amazing, coachable staff that want to grow and learn. We're hands-on in the business, and we teach them and see them growing out of positions there, and they want to lead,” said Suzy of the employees that have switched to work for the business.
The Mazzone's began offering services in late March of 2022 and quickly saw leads coming in. The combination of Lawn Doctor’s aggressive digital media program and local ground game activities has resulted in a quick ramp for the new franchise owners. Their goal is to have 300 program customers by the end of the year.
Matt and Suzy say they can imagine achieving that target due to the immense support the corporate team at Lawn Doctor has provided them, from their first point of contact up until now on a continuing basis.
“We have started businesses from the ground up in the past, and it’s nice to be able to have the support from Lawn Doctor guiding you, training you and really helping you along the way,” said Suzy.
Matt added, “We didn't know the industry, but Lawn Doctor gave us the support to navigate and get through that.”
The startup costs for a Lawn Doctor franchise range from $116,465–$141,815. To learn more about franchising with Lawn Doctor, visit https://lawndoctorfranchise.com/.
