Lessons From Franchise Executives: Nicole Kosmaceski of Griswold Home Care

In her role as a franchise exec for the brand that helps seniors achieve better health, comfort and happiness, Kosmaceski finds fulfillment in helping franchisees achieve their own happiness.

As franchise development manager of Griswold Home Care, a 168-unit in-home senior care brand, Nicole Kosmaceski looks for franchisees whose goals align with the brand’s mission to serve. “We call it ‘Griswoldness’ — people who demonstrate a high degree of empathy and caring,” she said.

But with her years of experience as a franchise exec, Kosmaceski knows it’s equally important that franchise candidates understand the demands and challenges of owning and running a business. “The biggest challenge is that people understand the difference between having a job, even at the executive level, and owning a business,” she said.

According to Kosmaceski, companies thinking of franchising often make similar mistakes in terms of underestimating the work involved. “To become a franchisor is an enormous undertaking,” she said. “It takes a lot of time, effort and staff to successfully franchise a business. A business thinking about franchising needs to be able to think both in the short term and the long term.”

Despite the difficulties involved, Kosmaceski has no regrets. “Helping people start their own companies and fulfill their dreams is the most rewarding thing I have ever done,” she said.
