Mashable: Domino's Delivers World's First Pizza By Drone

Domino’s Pizza successfully delivered its first pizza via drone technology in New Zealand.

Drone delivery technology is celebrating a small win today. According to a recent Mashable article, Domino’s Pizza successfully made its first commercial delivery in New Zealand on Wednesday around 11 a.m. local time. The order was delivered to a customer in Whangaparaoa, which is 15 miles from Auckland.

The brand partnered with startup Flirtey for the drone delivery, with a team of drone experts and a pilot overseeing the project. Domino’s plans to continue testing out delivery with drones this week and will start to expand test markets to include Australia, France, Belgium, Japan, The Netherlands, and Germany.

Many fear the delivery service will take jobs away from humans, but the brand reassured employees. "We expect the DRU Drone by Flirtey to be an essential addition to our delivery fleet. This will actually create jobs. As we expand, we will look to hire additional team members whose roles will be focused on drone order loading and fleet management," Domino's Group CEO Don Meij said.
