McDonald's to Release Spicy Chicken Sandwich for the First Time Since 2013

The brand will be unveiling a variety of Spicy Chicken menu items later this year.

After far too long, McDonald’s is expected to launch two new Spicy Chicken menu items— the Spicy BBQ Sandwich and the Spicy BBQ Glazed Tenders— in mid-September, according to an article on QSR.

The news apparently comes from leaked documents obtained by Business Insider. “Hold tight because McDonald’s is bringing the heat starting in September,” a McDonald’s representative responded.

“The new menu items are variations on the chain's buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich and buttermilk crispy tenders, taking the chicken and adding a Southwestern sauce with a hint of jalapeños,” reported Business Insider.

McDonald’s originally removed its Hot’N’Spicy chicken sandwich in 2006 after lukewarm sales. While the company tried to roll out a Dollar Menu version of the sandwich in 2013, it did not resonate with customers. Two years later, fans organized a petition to bring back some version of the spicy chicken sandwich.

According to QSR, McDonald’s is following in line with this year’s spicy chicken trend, which includes new menu items from Chik-fil-A and Burger King.

For many fans, it appears the wait is finally over.
