Nation's Restaurant News: Habit Burger to test breakfast at drive-thru restaurants

After seeing success at a franchised location, the brand will explore a morning menu.

The Habit Restaurants Inc. has announced plans to introduce a drive-thru option at select Habit Burger restaurants. According to a recent article in Nation's Restaurant News, the brand will be testing out this new initiative in the second quarter along with a limited breakfast menu.

This is not the brand's first venture into the breakfast segment. Last year, the brand opened a franchised location at the University of California-Riverside that features a breakfast menu. The addition has seen positive results, which have inspired the parent company to implement further testing.

“The restaurant doesn’t have a lot of history, but we are pretty excited about the sales trends that it has in the morning daypart and really feel that moving that test to six of our street drive-thru locations is really the appropriate next step, and with that we will be able to best determine its effect on sales and profitability,” said CEO Russ Bendel.

Habit Burger will also explore the possibilities offered by building a mobile app and introducing kiosks for ordering. These technological additions are expected to roll out the second half of the year.
