Nation’s Restaurant News: McDonald’s Goes After Sonic With Slushies

Around 6,000 locations in the Midwest and South will get McDonald’s new Minute Maid Slushies.

McDonald’s Corp. has worried about Sonic for years and is finally making its move. According to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article, the fast-food chain introduced a new line of Minute Maid Slushies for 6,000 of its locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Ohio and Michigan.

McDonald’s new drinks include orangeade, fruit punch and cherry limeade for flavors, one of which is known as Sonic’s signature flavor. Beverages aren’t a new strategy for the brand though. It started to offer $2 McCafe beverages and $1 coffee drinks earlier this year along with different versions of the Shamrock Shake.

The company’s existing machines used for frappes and smoothies will be able to make the new slushie drinks, and therefore will need no additional equipment or operational changes.
