QSR Magazine: Chicago’s Cash-Free Pizza Joint Comes to Life

Chicago’s high-tech neighborhood welcomes cash-free restaurant.

Chicago’s Bonci Pizza stands out from other pizza shops in the city in more ways than one. Besides being cash-free, Bonci serves up slices of pizza in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood—that aren’t deep dish--in a deli-style environment, each priced by weight. Owner Rick Tasman is excited to bring the typical Roman experience to the U.S.

Tasman always wanted to run an entirely cash-free operation in order to avoid the issues cash can create in any business. Without imbalances in the register and having to train employees on handling it, it allows for quicker transactions in its cash-free point of sales system.

“We’re accommodating it, but we’re not ashamed that we don’t take cash. It’s just how we do business,” said Tasman. “And I wouldn’t change this decision for anything.”
