Paul McCulloch and his wife, Paula, are expanding their Smoothie King franchise to include seven new locations in Nashville and surrounding areas within the next four years. With their newest store opening last week in the downtown YMCA, Paul mentioned they have started considering more non-traditional stores for the franchise.
Calling the Y a “private club,” McCulloch told the Nashville Post, “Health clubs are the move. The Y averages 50,000 check-ins a month, and we wanted a part of that.”
Paul and Paula will be opening another location this summer at 2040 Rosa Parks Boulevard, which is equipped with drive-thru. The McCullochs also plan to expand their Smoothie King locations to Spring Hill, Franklin, Charlotte Pike, Donelson, Hermitage and Mt. Juliet in the coming years. Although they are focused on stand-alone stores, Paul mentioned they have hopes to enter the hospital market someday.
“We’d love to make healthy foods available for patients who don’t usually have an appetite to eat,” McCulloch told the Nashville Post. He believes serving a 24/7 “great meal in a cup” will boost sales.
With extensive business experience, Paul knew Nashville was perfect to grow the brand.
“Smoothie King was the type of brand that was likely to grow. Nashville is hip, and it was a good time to grow the brand in such a city,” he told the Nashville Post.
