USA Today: Toppers Pizza Prepared To Adopt To New Overtime Pay Regulations

Scott Gittrich, president of Toppers Pizza, warns that new overtime pay regulations will hurt the brand's incentive structure and culture.

With new overtime rules expected to be announced Wednesday, May 18th, USA Today ran a story on the ways that businesses will be forced to react to the new regulations. The piece includes insight from Toppers Pizza, including the brand's president Scott Gittrich.

In the article, Gittrich said that around Toppers 100 managers and executives would be affected by the regulations, and that the base pay of most general managers would be raised to the new threshold to avoid paying too much in overtime. He goes on to say, however, that incentives will be affected that will hurt the brand’s “freewheeling” culture.

Said Gittrich, “[Managers] were attracted to large incentive packages that gave them a sense of autonomy and an ability to control their own pay. It’s going to take away their flexibility.”
