Adweek: A Massachusetts Burger King Just Asked the Neighboring Wendy’s to Prom. Wendy’s Said Yes
The marketing stunt has been taken to Twitter by both franchise brands.
In Lynn, Massachusetts Burger King and Wendy’s have restaurants located right next door to each other. And while that placement has the potential to lead to competition, a recent article in Adweek notes that for now, it’s created a solid advertising stunt.
Burger King used the location’s marquee to ask Wendy’s to go to prom, with the chain tweeting it out on its corporate account. Wendy’s — which is known for its humorous approach to social media — replied on Twitter, saying, “Ok, but don’t get handsy and we have to be home by 10.” It’s a smart play for both Burger King and Wendy’s to get good press. However, it’s still to be seen if there will be any type of offer or promotion to build off of the successful stunt.
