Social media marketers and copywriters are celebrating as Twitter is officially letting users be a bit more long-winded in their tweets. According to a recent Adweek article, Twitter announced yesterday that the 140-character limit for tweets will only include text, aiming to give users the ability to share more multimedia.

Previously, photos, videos, or GIFs would count as a part of the 140-character limit—forcing brands to choose between their words and their content.

This update was not a huge surprise since the company promoted that a change such as this might be coming to the platform at some point. The development certainly makes sense as the use of multimedia in advertising and social media marketing becomes more prevalent.

Spredfast CEO Rob Favaron explains, "With long-form content on the rise, businesses who can take advantage of Twitter's new offering stand poised to create deep, meaningful communities."

Twitter is also testing out moving "@" Twitter handles outside of the tweet box to save even more space for text.
