Adweek: McDonald’s Sponsored a Snapchat Bitmoji that Steals Your Coffee in Augmented Reality

This is the social media platform’s first sponsored Bitmoji.

McDonald’s and Snapchat have teamed up to launch the social media platform’s first sponsored Bitmoji. The augmented reality feature is designed to promote McCafé products by allowing users’ 3D b=Bimojis to steal a cup of coffee from them. A recent article in Adweek notes that the campaign is a part of McDonald’s plan to be more involved with holiday marketing.

In a statement cited by Adweek, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing Officer Morgan Flatley said, “We are always looking for new and compelling ways to engage with our customers, and we’re excited to be the first to bring this approach to life with our partners at Snapchat. As augmented reality continues to present opportunities to innovate through creative, we are thrilled that people can not only express their love of our coffee, but finally give the (digital) version of themselves a delicious cup of McCafé.”

While this is Snapchat’s first sponsored Bitmoji, the app is well-versed in sponsored content. The platform has teamed up with brands like Budweiser and Warner Brothers in the past to sponsor other augmented reality experiences.
