Anchored Tiny Homes Identifies Texas as Its Next Expansion Market

As the owner of an Anchored Tiny Homes franchise, investors help solve the housing crisis through the creation of ADUs, and the accessory dwelling unit franchisor is looking to sell 30 territories in the state as the need for affordable housing continues to grow.

Anchored Tiny Homes, the tiny home franchise that focuses intently on the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs), is eyeing Texas for franchise expansion after a recent change in state law. A bill recently passed in the Texas State Senate, Bill 1412, removes local cities’ power to restrict ADU construction, legalizing the units statewide.

“Our mission is to solve the housing crisis in the United States, and we believe ADUs are the prime way to do so affordably,” explained Colton Paulhus, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anchored Tiny Homes. “This law passing is a huge step forward in increasing housing availability in the state of Texas, and we’re ready to bring Anchored Tiny Homes to the state to drive that availability even more quickly.”

Though multiple prospective owners have expressed interest in Texas territories, there are no Anchored Tiny Homes businesses currently operating in the state. With a market capacity of 30 territories statewide, Paulhus estimates the state will be nearly 70% sold in the next year.

“There are not any competitors in the ADU space that are franchising,” he said. “We are the pioneers in the space since the industry is still at the ground floor, and with this new legislation, prospective franchisees have an opportunity to break into an incredibly lucrative space.”

Anchored Tiny Homes franchisees who grow in the state will be providing support as individuals who cannot afford single-family homes build their own homes in the form of an ADU on a family member’s property. Investors will also be able to leverage Anchored Tiny Homes’ services to build more housing, creating more rental availability for the end consumer.

Because of the potential in the market, Paulhus says the leadership team plans to make consistent trips to Texas to evaluate territories and meet with interested business people.

“There is a giant need for affordable housing in the state of Texas, and the passing of Bill 1412 will lead to a boom in companies specializing in ADUs,” said Paulhus. “The client demand for ADUs in Texas will be similar to what we’ve seen in California. In California, there were over 29,000 ADUs submitted for permitting in 2022, and that number is on track to grow 25% year-over-year.”

Who Is an Ideal Anchored Tiny Homes Franchise Owner?

As the brand grows, Paulhus says it is seeking franchise owners who are as passionate about the mission as they are. Anchored Tiny Homes was founded after the family realized just how pertinent the need for additional affordable housing was, and they realized that ADUs could be a perfect solution. While the franchise offers attractive returns on the initial investment, Anchored Tiny Homes isn’t looking for just anyone with some extra capital to join the team.

“We’ve seen the need for affordable housing firsthand, and we are on a mission to bring a solution to as many markets as possible,” said Paulhus. “As we expand, we’re looking for entrepreneurs in Texas who both realize the strength of the model and have a genuine desire to support their communities in creating affordable housing opportunities for everyone.”
