After eight years of military service, time spent in the biopharmaceuticals field, a trip to culinary school and 16 years as a chef, Latesha Couch, a now-franchisee with Anchored Tiny Homes, the emerging tiny home franchise, had pursued — and found great success — in multiple areas of interest. After joining the Army at just 18, she had learned how to commit to her dreams and chase them regardless of circumstance, and that’s exactly what she’s doing with her new tiny home franchise.

“I have always wanted to take chances in terms of my career growth,” explained Couch. “Pretty much all of my life has been setting my mind on something and going after it. If something feels right, I pray on it, then I go get it. What’s the harm in trying? I’m blessed that my husband and I are in a position to be able to go try something if we’re interested in it, and I’ve tried to instill those same values into my babies. You either win or you fail, and you’ll fail some, but you’ll never know if you don’t at least try.”

In this case, Couch not only had a chance to try something new but she also knew she’d be addressing a huge need in her own community. After researching the Anchored Tiny Homes business model, Couch realized it presented a great opportunity for her to take a model and put her own spin on it while providing a similar opportunity to the San Antonio community.

“My husband and I have been together for 13 years and have been buying and flipping homes for a lot of that time,” said Couch. “It became a passion of mine to see the process through from the very beginning to the very end. We had always talked about continuing that when we got to Texas, and I started feeling like the time was now.”

While she and her husband were able to secure their own home a few years ago, the current state of the market makes it so that “people can’t even afford to live,” she explained. Anchored Tiny Homes accessory dwelling units (ADUs) increase access to housing with a dignified, even enviable, solution.

With customizable layouts, finishes, appliances and more, Anchored Tiny Homes ADUs can be made to cater to any client with any range of specific needs or preferences.

“These homes are good!” added Couch. “It’s something people will be attracted to. You get all of the things you want out of a house, but it’s affordable, too.”

The Future of Anchored Tiny Homes of San Antonio

Couch is looking forward to launching soon and is already excited about how she will be able to change the lives of those seeking more affordable housing options. As a mom and a business owner, she will be building something that makes her friends and family proud and can provide for her children long into the future.

“We’re going to be able to change lives. How amazing is that?” added Couch. “I get a little bit emotional thinking about it, still… People will be able to live comfortably, and I will have had something to do with it.”

In her own circles, Couch says she’s a demonstration of just how far hard work and dedication can get you.

“If you believe in yourself and stay with it, this is what you can do,” she said. “I want to make my mother proud. Knowing that she raised her girls by herself, I can say, ‘Look, Mom. You did this. We did this.’ It’s exciting. We own our home, and now we own our business.”
