When it comes to operating a business, in the eyes of the public, being considered trustworthy and credible is indispensable. In fact, a recent study by The Drum found that more than 80% of consumers consider trust as a major deciding factor in their overall buying decisions.

However, for businesses looking to build trust and credibility, this isn’t something that can simply be done overnight. Instead, it’s developed over time and requires dedication, transparency and consistency. One of the first ways to start building trust and credibility for your franchise is through your website. Experts believe that a business’s online presence is often the first point of contact you’ll have with potential customers or investors.

As such, your website should embody the essence of your brand and be trustworthy, credible and approachable. But how can you go about nurturing those essential qualities effectively?

Be Transparent

If you want to attract new franchisees, your website should feature clear and concise information. Business owners should provide a thorough overview of the franchise model, including the investment requirements, royalty fees, training programs, ongoing support and available markets.

Be specific about the responsibilities and expectations from franchisees. Transparency in these aspects will help potential investors assess whether your franchise aligns with their goals and resources and instills confidence in your brand.

Professional Website Design

Another important element to help build trust and credibility is to invest in a clean, intuitive and professional website design. A visually appealing layout with easy navigation enhances user experience, making visitors feel comfortable exploring your site. Additionally, professionalism in your design will reflect your commitment to quality.

For example, as noted by Ben Seidel, CEO and founder of Igniting Business, spelling and grammatical errors can erode a consumer’s trust in a website.

“Visitors are often less likely to trust brands that make spelling and grammatical errors within their content,” said Seidel. “If you cannot be thorough with your own website’s content, why should someone trust the quality of your service or product?”

Even further, a study conducted by Website Planet found that the number of visitors who leave a website due to typos and grammatical errors is significantly higher than those encountering error-free content. Specifically, the research found that the bounce rate, which signifies the percentage of visitors who exit a website after only viewing one webpage, was 85% higher than the cleaned-up version. This alone is enough to underscore the importance of professional website design when it comes to building trust and credibility.

Security and Privacy Protection

Finally, there’s implementation of security and privacy protection measures, such as SSL certificates, encryption protocols and firewalls. Rudy Klobas of The Good, recommended businesses communicate their commitment to data privacy and protection and display trust badges or security certifications prominently throughout their websites to reassure visitors that their sensitive information is safe.

“Implementing trust badges throughout your site can be one of the most effective methods of establishing the credibility of your website,” said Klobas.

If someone visits your website and has to worry about their personal information, this will erode trust instantly. Security measures not only protect your visitors but also enhance your credibility.

The Starting Point

There are several ways you can go about building trust and credibility through your franchise website. Each of these steps above are useful starting points for creating a solid foundation to contribute to the overall perception of your brand. By doing them correctly, this may make a big difference in how potential customers and new franchisees will view your business.
