After over three decades in managing and operations at Radio Shack and Sprint, Herman Ascher found himself in the unfortunate position of being laid off.

“That left me with kind of a conundrum because that was the second time that I had intended to spend the rest of my life with a company but couldn’t,” said Ascher. “So I started thinking about owning my own business.”

His company offered outplacement services that included a seminar about franchising, which he attended. He became very interested in the concept. Ascher got in touch with the woman who ran the organization, and she learned about his business acumen, strengths, weaknesses and interests before showing him four franchises that could be a good fit for him — one of which was ecomaids, an emerging environmentally-safe cleaning brand.

Some of the other companies were cost-prohibitive for Ascher, and ecomaids caught his attention by going above and beyond with their service, even when Discovery Days had to be held virtually due to the pandemic. The corporate team sent vouchers for snacks even though he was participating from home, and he thought that was a nice touch. “To me, that spoke volumes, that little gesture,” he said.

Ascher signed on in early 2021 and started a business with ecomaids of McKinney-East Frisco on March 1 of that year. He has been busy in the 15 months since, building partnerships in the community and hiring staff so he can focus on the company’s operations.

“We broke even a couple of months ago and continue to grow revenue month after month,” said Ascher, saying business is a slow start, but the rewards are worth it. “The first year costs a lot, and you may not take home a paycheck for a while. You have to see the light at the end of the tunnel, trust your projects for six months or a year, and fight to get to those break-even points.”

He has since acquired another nearby territory and expects the additional area to double the number of customers he provides services to, which will be huge for his business.

The executive team at ecomaids is happy to have Ascher on board with the brand, providing services to his local Texas community.

“We are all so thrilled and pleased to see how well Herman’s first year and a half have gone. He has had some amazing successes and already created a respected name for himself in the McKinney-East Frisco area,” said Sharon Cupach, vice president of franchise development. “ecomaids looks forward to working with him further as he adds another territory and continues his commendable progress.

The total investment necessary to open an ecomaids franchise ranges from $110,990-$136,379. For more information on franchising opportunities with ecomaids, visit https://ecomaidsfranchise.com/.
