Over the last 10 to 15 years, franchising has expanded from storefront locations to also include high-demand services, according to an article in Forbes.

Acknowledging the increasing need for in-home care as baby boomers enter and progress through retirement, franchise coach and article author, Rick Bisio, said: “A great example of a growing industry in franchising is in-home senior care. According to the most recent study on aging in the United States, 46 million Americans are currently age 65 or older, with that number expected to hit 98 million by 2060.” Bisio also noted: “As more and more baby boomers become senior citizens, there will be a greater need than ever for in-home care services, and the trend is expected to continue for decades.”

An emphasis on improved health also extends to the health and wellness franchising industry, Bisio said. Consumer demand over the years has further driven growth in boutique salon concepts with specialty and/or high-end offerings, according to the article. Bisio also called out the pet care industry: “According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), Americans spent a record $69.5 billion on their pets last year. Many franchises are taking advantage of the increased care and attention we are placing on our pets and becoming quite profitable from it.”
