Fast Casual: Meatheads CEO Explains How an Amazon Prime Mindset is Changing the Fast Casual Industry

Tom Jednorowicz, founder and chief executive of Meatheads, shares his thoughts on the ever-changing landscape of fast casual restaurants.

We all know Amazon has completely changed the retail industry. The number of people who shop in brick and mortar stores has continued to decline, and according to PWC's 2017 Total Retail survey, 37 percent of respondents said they shop less often at retail stores because of Amazon. In a recent article from Fast Casual, Tom Jednorowicz, founder and chief executive of Meatheads, shared his thoughts on the connection between this decline and the impact of sales on fast casual restaurants.

He told Fast Casual, “Fewer retail visits mean shoppers aren't stopping by fast casual restaurants for lunch or dinner nearly as often. Less traffic typically means less revenue, which results in less profit and we all know where this chain reaction leads. Like it or not, as restaurant operators trying to survive within the retail ecosystem, most of us are just parasites feeding off of our environment.”

As consumers continue to do their shopping online, there is still hope for restaurants to capitalize on foot traffic by focusing more community engagement and local events. Leveraging your brand in a community can help brands to insert themselves into consumers’ lives during different parts of their daily routines.
