Footprints Floors, the national flooring franchise with over 160 active territories, hosted its 2024 franchise convention in Broomfield, Colorado. The annual convention’s theme was “Perspective” with a focus on helping franchisees see their “best path forward” while encouraging continued connection, education and celebration of the system’s growth to this point.

“Our 2023 convention was called ‘Cultivate,’ and we focused on the power that franchisees have in their own businesses. By being a proactive franchisee, you can cultivate the business, lifestyle and future that you dream of,” explained Bryan Park, founder and CEO of Footprints Floors. “This year, we focused on ‘Perspective,’ encouraging franchisees to look at where they are now and begin to chart the path to their futures. Cultivation with a clear perspective is what creates successful businesses.”

Education and Discussion Prepared the System for Another Great Year

The Footprints Floors franchise system gathered at the Omni Interlocken Hotel in Broomfield to celebrate a year of impressive growth and to prepare business owners for another great year ahead. The convention included sessions to provide franchisees with the key skills and expertise they’ll need to propel their success, with a focus on sales strategies, job site analysis, reputation management, and tile education, marketing and production.

Footprints Floors’ corporate partners were also present for an expo and multiple product demonstrations to provide franchisees even more insight into current industry trends, specific products and materials.

On Friday, to cap off the convention, Jordan Murphy, sales manager of Footprints Floors of Denver, delivered a keynote address on perspective. In “A New Perspective,” Murphy dug into the phrase, “Don’t miss the forest for the trees.” The same scenario can be understood in vastly different ways due to nothing other than a difference in perspective, and finding the best perspective for your situation can be transformational.

Murphy recalled his journey from high school athletics to college football, being released from the team, working late nights at an urgent care, his experience in the 2012 Aurora theater shooting at the midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises,” a subsequent return to football and his later letdown when his NFL dreams did not come true.

“I realized that there were 13 other people in that theater that died. There were 70 others that were wounded that would love the opportunity to sit there, healthy, with an opportunity at life right in front of them,” said Murphy. “I don’t know what made me flash to that perspective. I took myself back to that theater for the first time in years and sat in those 90 seconds that I was laying in that row … I thought, ‘What did I think about in those 90 seconds? What mattered to me in those 90 seconds?’”

It wasn’t football, making money or going to the NFL. Murphy remembered thinking that he felt he had wasted his life having spent it on just himself.

“I realized how empty that life was, and I decided my perspective was going to change,” he said. “I was going to live life in gratitude. And I was going to live life like I got a second chance.”

The perspective that comes with a motivation for “the greater good of people over your personal needs” is life-changing, and Footprints Floors owners have an opportunity to relish in this perspective each and every day.

Celebrations of Success Ended the Convention On A High Note

Last year, despite notable instability in the residential construction industry, Footprints Floors continued to see growth. In addition to system-wide revenue increases, the franchise added another 15 territories to its network with 12 new franchise agreements.

“Residential construction declined drastically last year, and a lot of people in the industry that I spoke to saw declines of about 30% in their businesses,” said Park. “We saw national revenue increases this year despite the residential construction industry being down, and that’s a huge victory.”

These successes are directly linked to the hard work of Footprints Floors franchisees, and they were recognized for their effort at the convention. In addition to the President’s Award (which recognized franchisees who achieved revenue benchmarks), the Service Award (given to franchisees who demonstrated a commitment to service), and the Founder’s Award (which honored franchisees who had made exceptional contributions to the system throughout the year), Footprints Floors recognized a few more key players.

Brandon McBrier, owner of Footprints Floors of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Hayden Sutton, owner of Footprints Floors of Minneapolis, both celebrated their fifth anniversary with the franchise.

Josh and Natalia Byrd, who own Footprints Floors of Nashville, Tennessee, received both the Franchisee of the Year and Highest Single Month Revenue 2023 awards, their second consecutive year of winning these awards.

Shawna Eikenberry and Amanda Wilkins, owners of Footprints Floors of Raleigh, North Carolina, received the Project of the Year award for excellence in craftsmanship after refinishing a wide-plank European white oak floor and custom floating staircase.

Carson Canedy, owner of Footprints Floors of Minneapolis Metro, won the Cobblestone Award, a recognition named after the street Park lived on when he first launched the business. This award recognizes a top-performing new franchisee.

Jeff Harris, owner of Footprints Floors of Memphis, Tennessee, was recognized as Best Reviewed Franchisee as determined by the number of five-star reviews he received in a single year.

After an educational and celebratory convention to kick off the year, the revitalized Footprints Floors franchise system is ready to take on 2024 with a refreshed perspective. As the residential construction market begins to shift, franchisees are prepared to leverage their skills and knowledge to continue growing their business. Similarly, the franchise leadership team is prepared to continue expanding the system with new entrepreneurs, targeting growth in Illinois, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware.
