Red Mango is a frozen yogurt and smoothie franchise known for its all-natural frozen yogurt, fresh fruit smoothies, yogurt parfaits and fresh juices.

How Many Red Mango Locations Are There?

Red Mango first opened in Korea. Although the company was struggling there, Dan Kim brought it to the United States, tweaked it and introduced it at a store near the University of California, Los Angeles campus in 2007.

The concept expanded to five stores by the end of its first year in the United States. In 2008, former Taco Bell executive John Antioco became an adviser to Red Mango. He helped grow the brand to 20 stores by April 2008. Later that year, Dallas-based private equity firm CIC Partners invested, and the chain grew to 60 stores. Kim told QSR Magazine that the brand began aggressively franchising in 2009.

Today, there are 47 Red Mango locations in North America.

What Is the Red Mango Business Model?

Red Mango franchisees start by participating in on-location training. They also benefit from ongoing operation support, quality assurance visits and professional marketing support. The franchise does ongoing product and menu development, as well as system and technology support.

The business has a collection of offers, including smoothies, fruit and vegetable juices, a comprehensive line of probiotics, bubble tea, wellness bowls, grilled paninis, wraps, salads, and seasonal soups. Multi-menu categories allow for pricing elasticity.

Notably, there is no need for a kitchen hood, exhaust system, fryers, fire suppression system or other expensive equipment at most locations. Red Mango’s recipes are designed to be easily executed by unskilled labor, as it requires a minimal amount of food and beverage preparation. However, the brand recently unveiled an expanded menu for its café concept at a location in Dallas. The location includes a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In addition to traditional locations, the Red Mango concept can also be formatted to operate in food courts, airports, universities, hospitals, kiosks and mobile kitchens.
