Is franchising the perfect stepping stone for stay-at-home moms?

Many stay-at-home moms are interested in either fully reentering the workforce or finding flexible, part-time work that will allow them to pursue their passions beyond homemaking. However, corporate jobs can have strict requirements, and a resume gap reflective of the time SAHMs have spent outside traditional career jobs can be problematic for some hiring managers.

Enter franchising.

“After staying home to raise children, many women feel like they have fallen behind and have to oversell themselves to a potential employer,” Telanda Sidari wrote for FranchiseWire. “But the skills used as a stay-at-home mom are incredibly valuable in the workforce. SAHMs are excellent communicators, leaders and multi-taskers.”

In franchising, the ability to adapt to circumstances, get work done when there’s time and generally be flexible and intrinsically motivated is especially important. Plus, franchising — especially with a semi-absentee ownership model — can provide the flexibility moms need if they are not interested in reallocating the entirety of their home-related tasks.

For women with a “mom gap” in their career history, franchising provides a space for professional success in a less rigid model than traditional corporate positions.
