Bojangles, the chicken and biscuit franchise with 750 units mainly across the Southeast, requires franchisees to invest between $1.5 million and $2.5 million to open a store of their own. The brand requires franchisees to have a net worth of over one million dollars and hold $500,000 or more in liquid assets.

The franchise is also currently only looking for multi-unit developers to take on three to five stores in three to five years. So, multiply the initial investment by the number of stores to get a truer picture of the cash outlay. The brand asks a four percent royalty fee and an additional four to six percent of gross monthly sales for marketing initiatives.

Here’s a breakdown of the estimated fee structure, provided by Franchise Direct:

Initial Franchise Fee$25,000
Insurance$4,000 - 7,500
Pre-opening Salaries, Travel, etc.$33,000 - 64,000
Site Selection$100 - 10,000
Building$730,000 - 870,000
Site Work$310,000 - 840,000
Soft Costs$50,000 - 120,000
Equipment, Furniture, Signage, Fixtures$340,000 - 390,000
Initial Inventory$10,000 - 22,000
Utility Deposits & Licenses$2,500 - 14,000
Additional Funds (3 month initial phase)$15,000 - 150,000

On average, Bojangles restaurants have an annual sales volume of $1.8 million dollars.

The franchise also offers special incentives for qualifying franchisees. Women, minorities and U.S. veterans can get 50% off the initial franchise fees on the first two restaurants and reduced royalty fees on the third. Franchisees looking to develop multiple Bojangles units outside the franchise’s Southeastern stronghold can expect to see their royalty funds deposited back into local advertising to help build up the brand.
