How Thanksgiving Should Give You a Moment to Reflect

This Thanksgiving, reflect on how far you have come and how much further you want to go.

In business and in life, we rarely stop to smell the roses, even though everyone who has walked life before us has recommended that we do.

Today, though, we should. Call it a good excuse. Call it whatever you want. But use this day as a day of reflection—a day to announce to those who help you on this journey that you appreciate the support.

In between turkey legs and pigskin, stop and reflect on how far you have come and how much further you want to go. At the end of the day, you are the dictator of what happens next, but having helpful hands will increase your chances to accomplish what you want.

For me, 2015 has been another incredible year. Incredible doesn’t necessarily mean perfectly peachy, but when reflecting, I can find many more wins than losses. My wife and I welcomed our second son, Lennon, to the world. We moved our office from a third floor start-up building to an established 19th floor suite overlooking the city. We have welcomed many great new clients to the agency, while celebrating many great ones who we continue to build together. We officially launched 1851 in its current state. My son, Jagger, has started to kick potty training in the butt (even though he is still looking for the potty train and is confused why he can’t ride it). I had many great meals, great travels and great discussions. I celebrated yet another great year with my wife.

Life certainly has had its shakeups this year, but all in all, if you are still breathing, you still have a lot to celebrate.

I have written many times about the impact people will have on life and business. People are the secret ingredient to success—no matter how you define it. This year has been full of great people moments for me personally, for No Limit Agency* and for 1851. In fact, each and every one of you has played an important role in the successes that I have been able to celebrate.

With 1851, as a reader, I am thankful for your commitment to our publication. Hopefully, we have been able to provide you with something meaningful. With No Limit Agency, I am grateful to all of our employees, our clients, our friends and our supporters. Without you, we would not be fighting to become the greatest midsized agency that ever existed. And to those of you in my personal life, thank you for being the rocks in helping me to become a better person, husband, father, brother and son. Thank you for teaching me everything you have offered to teach me. I am grateful for each and every one of those moments.

Today is about recognizing those who have sacrificed before us—but it is also a day that we can use to be thankful for those around us.

Happy Thanksgiving.
