MediaPost: Robot Chefs Power New Boston Restaurant

Spyce was founded by four MIT grads and one chef.

It’s no secret that technology is playing an increasingly important role in the franchising industry, especially when it comes to restaurants. But there’s a new restaurant in Boston that’s taking its tech to the next level by adding robots into the mix. According to a recent MediaPost article, that restaurant’s name is Spyce.

Founded by four MIT graduates and one chef, Spyce has a robotics kitchen that’s central to its design. Seven cooking woks — which are cylinders that use an induction heating element — power the system, which begins when customers place their order on a large screen. The name of the person who placed the order then appears above the robotic chef so that customers can watch their food being prepared. After the meal is made, there’s a cleaning and sanitizing cycle that kicks in.
