Mobile Payments Could Become the Norm for Franchises

Younger consumers fans of trading wallets for smartphones.

Franchises would be wise to take strides toward mobile payment implementation, as data shows consumers are increasingly looking to leave their wallets at home.

According to a recent survey from Harbortouch, nearly half of Millennials use mobile payment options like Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

"One of the more interesting findings we uncovered from our survey is the growing desire for consumers to use mobile payment technology at restaurants,” said Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Harbortouch. “Currently, most mobile payment transactions happen in retail environments. There is now a unique opportunity for restaurants to gain a competitive advantage by making mobile payments part of the dining experience.”

Out of seven categories, 25 percent of survey respondents chose the restaurant industry as the most likely to sector to widely adopt mobile payment options in the future.
