Kyle Messmer, 30, originally attended school to be a chiropractor. He attended Southern Oregon University but left to pursue franchising when he realized his heart was in business.

“I wanted to have more interaction with different people and do what I knew I’d be more successful at,” he said.

Messmer is no stranger to the franchise world, as his father’s been a franchisee for 22 years, primarily working with Subway. Messmer also has a history with the sub-sandwich company, and he opened 12 Subway locations in the Portland Metro area since 2006.

Mesmmer, along with his brother Bryan Messmer, opened their second MOOYAH Burgers Fries & Shakes location yesterday in Thornton, Colorado.  Their first location opened in Westminster, Colorado last September.

How did you learn about the brand?

I learned about the brand through a development agent my father met at another restaurant opening. My dad basically told him I was looking at opportunities in Colorado, so that’s how we were introduced.

Why did you choose an opportunity with MOOYAH?

I was basically turned on to MOOYAH by the development agent, and when I went and visited, I was blown away by the product; it was the selling point. I liked the fresh simplicity. Also how MOOYAH operates as a company, their core values and really giving back to the community really resonated with me. They also have developed a really cool environment for the employees and the customers. There are a lot of good values behind the brand and I'm excited to be a part of it.

Are you involved with any charities or do any community outreach with your business? Or do you plan to when your location opens?

A lot of what MOOYAH encourages, and what we’ve done with our individual Subways from day one,

is being part of the chamber, getting involved with schools, churches, other non-profits like Boys and

Girls Club. We aim to be more than just a business, but also to be an asset to the people that support us every day. We plan on forming a charity, when we get to that point, that’s specific to our family. Breast cancer has had a massive impact on our family, so we plan to focus on breast cancer support in addition to all the other community needs and requests that we get.

Do you have any other interesting hobbies or passions?

I’m big into the outdoors, I love spending time with my wife and our three dogs hiking, biking, water sports and really anything outside.
