Nation’s Restaurant News: Restaurants Lose 105K Jobs in September After Hurricanes

Employment numbers declined for the first time since 2010 due to the major storms.

Both Hurricane Harvey and Irma significantly affected this past month’s jobs report. According to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article, jobs declined by 33,000 in September, which was the first employment decline since 2010.

During the month, the restaurant industry alone lost 105,000 jobs from the impact of the of the hurricanes. And in fact, this loss was the biggest one-month loss in the sector in the history of the report.

Before the storms hit, the restaurant industry was trending up in terms of job growth and since February 2010, 2.5 million workers have been added by restaurants.
