Nation’s Restaurant News: Where the Women-Led Restaurants Are

Diners can easily find restaurants run by females during GrubHub’s March promotion.

GrubHub is jumping on board with Women’s History Month in March with funding and marketing initiatives. According to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article, the delivery provider is hoping to create the first national database of restaurants owned or run by women in the U.S. RestaurantHer.com is the website launched in partnership with Women Chefs & Restaurants, which will house the searchable database by zip code. Restaurants must be majority owned by women or have a kitchen led by a women chef or executive chef. Many of these restaurants, not surprisingly, are included in the GrubHub network, but many are not.

“We were shocked that there wasn’t another map or directory of women-led restaurants, so we created one,” said Katie Norris, GrubHub’s manager of corporate communications.

Besides creating a database, GrubHub is committed to donating money to the cause. The company will donate $1 to support women in the restaurant industry for every guest that pledges to dine from a female-run restaurant during the entire month of March, up to $1 million, with the first $100,000 already pledged to WCR.
