NY Daily News: 26 Arrested After Fight for $15 Minimum Wage Protest Shut Down Broadway

Over a dozen minimum wage protesters were arrested this morning in New York City.

26 people had been arrested in New York City by 8:15 a.m. this morning, reports NY Daily News. On Broadway and Liberty Street, near the site where Occupy Wall Street protests began in 2011, protesters gathered to fight for an increase in minimum wage.

“For too long, McDonald’s and low-wage employers have made billions of dollars in profit and pushed off costs onto taxpayers, while leaving people like us – the people who do the real work – to struggle to survive,” says a statement on the group’s website. “That’s why we strike.”

All protesters were charged with disorderly conduct. “They blocked the street on Broadway,” a police source told NY Daily News.
