Paris Baguette, the bakery-cafe brand with more than 4,000 units across the globe and nearly 90 in the U.S., has signed 71 new agreements in the first half of the year and is now on track to exceed 100 new franchise agreements by the end of 2021.

Interest in the brand has been accelerating since the beginning of the year. The brand sold 25 new franchises in Q1, but by Q2 had shattered that record by signing another 43. To put that in context, the brand only signed 22 agreements throughout the entirety of 2020.

“As we close in on our 100th franchise agreement ahead of schedule, we’re excited by the momentum this brand has,” said Darren Tipton, CEO. “It shows that the brand is not just strong, but poised to take off like a rocket.”

Attracting First-Time Franchisees

Thanks to the brand’s simple-to-operate, yet highly lucrative business model, it has had success attracting first-time franchisees. A lean labor force, streamlined operations, small store footprint and a focused menu allowed it to weather the economic downturn, keep stores up and running and maintain its relationship with its customers.

That model helped Paris Baguette come out far ahead of its competitors as it came out of the COVID-19 crisis.

Mark Mele, chief development officer for Paris Baguette, said the brand has also secured several area development signings this quarter, including Las Vegas, Atlanta, Boston, and new market Cincinnati.

“This is already shaping up to be our best year on record for store growth,” Mele said. “The speed at which we’re able to sign agreements is a testament to the strength not only of the Paris Baguette brand but its operational model as well."

Paris Baguette’s Long-Term Plans for Dominating the Segment

Paris Baguette’s rapid rate of creating deals bodes well for its mission to open 1,000 locations by 2030. But according to Mele, the brand will not get ahead of itself with growth.

“Smart, strategic expansion is our goal for Paris Baguette,” said Mele. “We’re growing quickly, but we’re also growing strategically. We are going to locations where people have an interest in and demand for our business, both new owners and customers.”
