Philadelphia Bans Cashless Stores and Restaurants

Philadelphia is officially requiring most stores and restaurants to accept cash, and establishments have until July 1 to comply with the new rule, according to a Fortune report.

Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney signed the legislation, and businesses who do not comply by the July 1 deadline risk paying fines of up to $2,000, according to the article.

As more and more franchises, particularly food establishments, invest in efforts to keep up with consumer demands and allow for more options in terms of online ordering and third-party delivery, this legislation is a reminder that an in-person cash transaction is still sometimes the best - and only - option for many a customer.
