The famous quote claiming “a chain is no stronger than its weakest link” is something that Pool Scouts, the 110-plus-unit pool cleaning and maintenance franchise, believes in wholeheartedly. The franchise, which is based in Virginia Beach and has territories in 18 states, has a dedicated staff of talented individuals offering support for all aspects of operations.

“The support at Pool Scouts is phenomenal. The ratio of support staff to franchisees is the best I've seen in my 20 years in franchising,” said Russell Gesher, director of operations. “Michael [Wagner, president] has helped put together a very strong support team that will grow as our franchise network grows. We feel our franchisees are supported through every step of the process.”

Gesher oversees the dual segments of the operations team: the franchise business coach staff and the technical coaches. The business coaches work closely with franchises about all the logistics of running a company, while the technical coaches are there for office support, field assistance and general problem-solving.

Erik Klumpe is a senior business coach with Pool Scouts. He had over 25 years of experience in franchising operations before joining the brand last year, and now works with new owners to get them trained on the software, budgets, P&L, marketing, hiring and more.

“We're tracking them, so they're successful. We are their go-to people and frontline defense any time they have a question. We're here to help them succeed and learn any skills they may not have or know if this is their first time running a business,” said Klumpe.

Trent Rountree is the senior franchise technical coach. He has 25-plus years of experience doing “every position a pool company has,” which made him a great fit for the position. Rountree and his team field all sorts of calls from technicians and offer solutions for everything from water chemistry problems to equipment issues.

“We are their comprehensive tech support. In addition to phone calls, Facetimes and emails, we also do a lot of traveling and site visits to help franchisees. We’ll do whatever it takes to help them succeed,” Rountree said.

General Manager Tiffany Glascock, who oversees the technicians to ensure that they are delivering service up to customers’ standards, said that it’s very rewarding to see how many different levels of support Pool Scouts offers and how it all culminates in company-wide success.

“One of the unique things about this brand is that we have such a large support system,” Glascock said. “When someone is opening a franchise, they have an expansive team making sure they are successful. There is a person to call on for every kind of question anyone in the business may have. That kind of accessibility is really, really important.”

In addition to the ongoing live support the operations team offers, Pool Scouts also hosts regional training events around the country to keep company standards fresh and ensure everyone at Pool Scouts is up to speed on all aspects of the business.

One was held the last week of September by Pool Scouts Raleigh franchisees Tiffiny Consoli and Stacey Schaeffer. Rountree, Wagner and Gesher were all present and held meetings on various topics exploring wiring pumps, motors, plumbing repairs and more.

“This is just another level of how we offer unparalleled support,” Gesher said. “We encourage any franchise owners, office managers and technicians that may benefit from this content to attend.”

The start-up costs for a Pool Scouts franchise range from $70,950 to $88,350. To learn more about franchising with Pool Scouts, visit https://poolscoutsfranchise.com/.
