QSR Magazine: Chick-fil-A Breaks Sunday Tradition to Help Stranded Travelers

After a massive power outage at the Atlanta airport, Chick-fil-A stepped in to provide meals for passengers.

As Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was experiencing a massive blackout, Chick-fil-A came to the rescue. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, Chick-fil-A broke its Sunday tradition of being closed to help serve 2,000 meals to passengers. On Twitter, the brand thanked chairman and CEO Dan Cathy for opening with #ChristmasMiracle.

Power outages began around 1 p.m. on Sunday and affected passengers in the terminals as well as some who were in the air and needed to be diverted during their flights. The outage was caused by a fire at an underground electrical facility and 1,000 flights were canceled because of it.

Since 1946, Chick-fil-A has closed for business on Sundays for employees to rest and worship. While the brand even stays true to this rule at Mercedez-Benz Stadium where the Falcons play, they do make exceptions to the rule when its communities are in need.
