QSR Magazine: Pizza Hut Donated Over 100 Million Pounds of Food

Pizza Hut has helped fight hunger in its communities for 25 years and reached a milestone of 100 million pounds of food donated.

In an effort to reduce food waste and donate to those in need, Pizza Hut has continued to partner with community-based hunger relief organizations nationwide since 1992. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, the pizza chain has now donated over 100 million pounds of food to 2,500 organizations.

With an estimate of 30 to 40 percent of food being wasted and 12 percent of Americans facing food insecurity, Pizza Hut decided to step in and donate surplus pizza and pasta from mistake orders and no-show customers.

“Pizza Hut led the charge,” said Bill Reighard, former Pizza Hut executive and Food Donation Connection founder. “It’s wonderful to celebrate this milestone and to recognize that the Pizza Hut commitment still inspires other big brands, as well as independent restaurants, to fight food waste and feed people in need in their communities.”
