Right at Home, the 650-plus location in-home care concept helping seniors and adults with disabilities live comfortably at home, has positioned itself as an industry leader in the senior care sector, giving franchisees the chance to make a difference in their local communities and be their own boss.

The franchise employs professionally trained caregivers to provide care and assistance to seniors and adults with disabilities who wish to remain in the comfort and safety of their own home or current living arrangement. This not only allows franchisees the opportunity to support their communities, but to capitalize on a “silver tsunami” of aging baby boomers.

“When someone is looking for care options for an elderly family member, they are going to trust the names they’ve already heard of,” said Jennifer Chaney, Vice President of Franchise Development at Right at Home. “And we’re still expanding our footprint to get in front of people who may not know what Right at Home is yet. We still have a lot of territory to cover and more people left to reach.”

With that said, here are five reasons why now is the time to invest in a Right at Home franchise in markets across the country.

People Are Living Longer and Aging in Place

In addition to the so-called silver tsunami, 10,000 people are turning 65 every day. “So we have this huge population that's starting to move through this aging process,” said Margaret Haynes, CEO of Right at Home. “We also know that people are living longer, and so they're going to be living with chronic type issues.”

With that, 70% of seniors will need some form of assistance at some point in their life. This means all the cards are stacked in terms of a high demand for Right at Home’s services and care that is going to need to be provided.

Be Part of a Recession-Proof Industry

The current economic climate also presents a stable business opportunity for Right at Home franchisees.

“With the economy the way it is today, 401k’s are taking a hit,” said Haynes. “So there may be individuals that say, ‘You know what, I want to take that money, and I want to have it work in a different way for me to really create a sustainable asset, something that I can then eventually down the road, get a return on.’”

During the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic uncertainties, Right at Home also proved to be a recession-proof business.

“When there were layoffs happening in a lot of corporate America, it gave a lot of individuals, that we have in the system today, an opportunity to say, ‘I'm tired of working for somebody else, and I want to work for myself,’” Haynes noted. “It's an opportunity for people who want to own their own business or want to build something to pass down to their children, or who just want a way to grow an investment. There’s no better way than to join a franchise system.”

Support from the Minute Doors Open

Right at Home franchisees are supported every step of the way, but one unique way the brand supports franchisees is through its business performance coaches. Once a franchisee opens their doors, they are immediately assigned a business performance coach who will work alongside them to build a sustainable, profitable business.

“This is someone that's going to be on the journey with them as long as they're with the Right at Home system,” said Chaney. “That individual is charged with understanding the strengths that each owner brings to the table, but also to discover what are the other things that need to surround them in order to actually build out this holistic business approach.”

The business performance coach also helps the franchisee engage with different subject matter experts at the Right at Home corporate office who they can go deeper with for additional training on anything they need to work on.

“The coaching at Right at Home is really tailored to the franchisee,” said Birmingham, Alabama, franchisee Beau Green. “It's great being aligned with a coach that can connect with you and appropriately coach you. It’s not just a one time meet and greet. It’s an ongoing evaluation.”

Green added that the annual owners’ conference is a unique way the brand supports franchisees. “Those are times where we can really rally to create a vision and a collective mission,” he said.

Join an Award-Winning Company

Right at Home is being recognized for its success. In 2022 alone, it was named a Franchise Business Review (FBR) Top 200 Franchise, Most Innovative Franchise, Most Profitable Franchise, Top Recession-Proof Franchise and Top Franchise for Veterans. Additionally, Right at Home was inducted into the FBR Hall of Fame. According to FBR, only franchisors that have demonstrated long-term dedication to franchisee satisfaction and an outstanding franchise opportunity for over ten years earn membership into the FBR Hall of Fame.

In addition, Right at Home was ranked in Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 list and has appeared on the list many times in the past several decades. Entrepreneur’s annual list examines trends in the franchising industry. The 44th annual Franchise 500 highlights the unprecedented challenges faced over the last two years and the resilience of the franchising industry. Entrepreneur also recognized Right at Home as a Fastest-Growing Franchise, a Top Global Franchise, a Top Franchise for Veterans and a Top Franchise for Less Than $100,000.

Those selected to be on the coveted list were evaluated for factors such as costs and fees, franchisee support, size and growth, brand strength and financial strength and stability.

Caring.com, a trusted resource for families looking for in-home care for their aging loved ones, also named Right at Home on its “Caring Stars” list for 2023. The list, based on consumer ratings and reviews, features the top senior care agencies in the United States every year. Of the 391 senior care agencies that received the Caring Star of 2023 award, 166 were Right at Home agencies. This achievement makes Right at Home No. 1 in the nation for the fifth consecutive year.

Right at Home Continues to Exceed Growth Goals

In 2022, Right at Home opened 25 new locations, had 18 signings and entered 8 new markets, including Grand Rapids, MI; Waterford, OH; Peoria, IL; Augusta, ME; Portland, ME; The Hills, SD; Cedar Falls, IA and Lakeland, FL.

“We are improving the quality of life for those we serve in ways other brands just can’t, and that has put us at the top,” said Chaney. “2022 was a great year for us, and we are proud of all the work our franchisees have done to serve their communities this year.”

During 2020 and 2021, the brand not only survived the height of the pandemic but came out of it stronger than ever, exceeding growth goals by 40%. In 2022, Right at Home picked up even more momentum as it continued to bring its best-in-class in-home care services to families in new markets across the country. And looking ahead, the brand isn’t slowing down. Right at Home plans to add 24 new territories in 2023 and saw six signings in January alone.

“Right at Home is a great system,” said Green. “There are amazing people, but there are also amazing owners. They've been very discerning on who the right franchisees are, and there's always an element of quality. And I think that's very important.”
