Edwardsville Intelligencer: How Seniors Can Age in the Comfort of Their Own Homes

Right at Home provides a variety of services that allow seniors to maintain independence as they age.

According to recent surveys, many Americans want to live in their own homes as long as they can. These numbers are important as the communities in Madison, St. Clair and Bond counties could double in 20 or so years.

"In this country, we're not prepared to support that level right now," Right at Home franchisee Dave Eustis told the Edwardsville Intelligencer. "We're going to have to do some things differently that we've been doing. Home care is going to be one piece of that pie."

Eric Martin, Senior Franchise Development Director of Right at Home, elaborated on the wide variety of families that need in-home care and companionship.

"We can come into a loved one's home to make sure they are being monitored and well taken care of," Martin told the reporter. "We provide those caregivers that give those daily, weekly or monthly services that allow those people to maintain some level of independence in their environment. We help them with certain tasks that a lot of us take for granted."

After Eustis was injured involving a tractor and brush hog he was sent home from the hospital in need of care. While his parents and wife were able to help for a while, his friends and neighbors had to pitch in as well.

"So when this opportunity for a franchise came to me last fall, I kind of looked at it as 'Hey, this is an opportunity to fill that need that I needed that others are going to need now,'" Eustis told the reporter. "Every experience you encounter in life gives you new opportunities. While that wasn't a wonderful experience, 20 years later I can look back on it and see an opportunity to serve others."
