Right at Home, one of the world’s largest in-home senior care franchises with more than 600 locations, has grown steadily since its founding in 1995. Now, the brand is preparing to accelerate its growth through a new acquisition strategy, which will bring independent in-home senior care businesses under the Right at Home umbrella in a way that benefits franchisees, employees, caregivers and their clients.

According to Brian Petranick, Right at Home’s President and CEO, acquiring independent locations and making them company-owned was the clear next phase of geographic expansion due to the current system footprint. With a specific focus on opening in geographic locations where there isn’t a Right at Home presence, the franchisor knows they can bring their core services to those in need who don’t currently have access. It also creates an opportunity to help independent in-home care business owners plan for their future exit or retirement.

“There are individuals who have built their in-home care business, have put their heart and soul into being successful, and are ready to put an exit plan in place,” Petranick said. “Maybe they are seeing the trends and the increasing complexity of the home care/health care space, maybe it’s the cost pressures, or maybe it’s just the right time in their life to look at retirement. Whatever the catalyst, we’re a good fit for independent in-home care business owners who are working on the next phase of their life.”

Right at Home represents the ideal buyer for any independent in-home senior care business because the brand ensures a smooth transaction and continuity of care for seniors and their families.

“We know the in-home senior care business extremely well,” said Petranick. “With other buyers who do not know the industry as we do, it is a longer, more cumbersome process. With over 25 years of experience, we know exactly what to look for in order to move through the diligence process more quickly and efficiently than your average buyer. Aside from the benefit of the timeline, we’re a cash buyer—in almost no situation would we require any kind of holdback and there is no waiting for funding approval.”

Right at Home goes to great lengths to ensure that the seniors receiving care at the time the business transfers ownership will not notice any change. The care professionals who care for clients will go through an onboarding process with the Right at Home company-owned team, giving the care professionals the opportunity to work for a global company with career advancement tracks.

“When you sell to Right at Home, you are placing your business in the hands of a company with the right mission, the right purpose and the right team in place,” said Petranick. “We have been in this business a long time. The Right at Home team is passionate about home care and the health care industry in general. We believe that prospective sellers want to know that their business will go to people as passionate as they are.”

As for how many businesses Right at Home will acquire, Petranick said there is no specific number—it’s more about taking advantage of opportunities presented. The brand is well-capitalized and has built the acquisition engine needed to manage multiple opportunities at the same time.

Petranick noted, “When we started franchising, I said, ‘How we treat our first 10 franchisees will determine our future. If we treat them well and they do well in their markets, the brand will grow.’ That applied to the next 10, 100, 200, and now up to 600 units. My philosophy hasn’t changed. We plan on doing our best with the first 10 company-owned locations so their success leads to the success of the next 100.”
